This week’s Preschool Book Club is reading Pete The Cat I Love My White Shoes. The kids are big Pete the Cat fans. They could not wait to read another Pete book. I had to think for a while what we wanted to do to go with the book. A taste test came to mind and so did sensory play, but I went a totally different direction with a DIY Walking Stick. Now we can go for a fun walk in our favorite shoes with our hip walking stick by our side.

What we used:
red, blue, brown, and white paint
paint brushes
sticks
What we did:
I laid out a trash bag on the ground. I squeezed out paint on to a paper plate. My son and I painted the sticks. Little brother had pulled all the farm toys out and was not leaving them. He requested that I paint his stick for him. It was nice to spend some one on one time with my big boy while we painted. Daddy stayed in with the 2 younger boys while they played with farm toys.
Once we finished painting our sticks we laid them out to dry.
How to make Pete the Cat Tags:
I took black, white, and yellow paper and cut out pieces to make a cat. I also used a sharpie to draw on the eyes. They are not exact but they will do. I also laminated them.
Now that the sticks were dry I got out my red yarn and free blue beads from Craftprojectideas.com to add the tags to the sticks.
I took the yarn and wrapped the top of the stick. I then wrapped the yarn around the stick with the tag on it. I added a blue bead on each end and then knotted the end to hold them on.
Now we look forward to our next walk in our cool shoes with our cool stick at our side. We hope you and the kids can enjoy this too.
