Pecan Pralines
We love pecan pralines. We get them all the time when we go out of town at our favorite candy shop. I knew exactly what the kids and I would try for n is for nuts in this weeks cooking with kids series. Making pecan pralines was a new experience for the kids and I in the kitchen. We just loved how they turned out. Now we can have them at home anytime we want.
Pecan Pralines
Caution: If you or the kids have a nut allergy do not try this. Growing up with a sibling with a nut allergy I want to caution other before trying these. My kids and I do not have any food allergies.
Ingredients/what we used:
butter
half and half
white and brown sugar
pecans
baking soda
candy thermometer
How to make/what we did:
Add 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar to sauce pan. Next add 1/3 cup butter and 1 cup half and half. Now add 1/8 teaspoon baking soda. Bring to boil at 241 degrees F. This is why we have a candy thermometer in the pan.
The mixture will foam and bubble. We cooked about 20 minuets.
Now add 1 1/2 cups pecans to the mix. Remove from heat and stir. The kids added the ingredients be fore I started boiling the mix and came back and added the pecans at this point.
Lay out parchment paper on the counter or a cookie sheet. Take spoonfuls and drop the mix on the paper.
Now let cool and sit till firm. Now you and the kids are ready to enjoy your treats!
