Body Painting for I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More!

We love to find fun ways to bring books to life after reading.  I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! by David Catrow is our latest book we did just that with.  Body Painting was a fun way to explore the book after we put it away.  The kids got to act out just what the child did in the book.  This was a great way to bring this amazing book to life for my children.  We enjoyed our afternoon of body painting together.

What we did:

We got our ice cube tray out and filled a few slots with lotion.  We did not measure we just pumped a few times in each one.  Next we scooped in a little cornstarch.  Last we put watercolors.  Caution not to use but a small drop.  We used too much.  Add a tiny bit of water and mix well.  Now you have DIY body paint.

We had read this book a few weeks ago.  The kids and I got it out again and read it again.  We put the book away and went outside.  I placed a plastic drop cloth down I had got at the dollar store.  Now it was time to paint!  My kids are 2,4, and 6yr.  They all had fun painting their bodies.  I even painted my hand.  Once we were covered in paint it was bath time! I planned this right before bath so we could come in and clean up. All except the blue and purple paint washed off fine.  We had a blue tint to our skin for a day and it was gone.  Their clothes had no issues and came out clean from all the colors.    I can see us trying out this fun sensory painting activity again.
