Caramel Apple Ice Cream Dough and Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream Dough- recipes with my secret ingredients

So over the summer I saw a post by Growing a Jeweled Rose for Ice Cream Dough.  I also saw a post by Play Create Explore for an Ice Cream Dough as well.  Since then I have seen a few more posts on the fun sensory play material made different ways.  This post here will share with you my version of  Caramel Apple Ice Cream Dough and Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream Dough- recipes with my secret ingredients.  I just love how these turned out and so did the kids.

Caramel Apple Ice Cream Dough and Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream Dough-

recipes with my secret ingredients

My secret ingredient:
I saw this box of caramel apple cake mix while at the store.  I kept thinking about this box of mix.  I was not thinking of how I wanted to eat it, but how we could play in it!  I first thought playdough, but after trying cake mix playdough, I didn’t like it.  So, I kept thinking and decided we would make fake ice cream somehow to play in it.  We got some of IKEA’S cool ice cream sand toys recently.  We had tons of fun with them at the beach but I see us finding many more ways to play with them.
Recipe for Caramel Apple Ice Cream Dough:

I took one box of the above mentioned cake mix, 2 boxes of baking soda and mixed them in a bowl with a spoon.  I then filled a 1 cup measuring cup and added a little green food coloring to it. I poured this over into the dry mix and stirred.  I added a little more water until I got the consistency that I wanted.  Now we had Caramel Apple Ice Cream to play with.

Once we had this ice cream ready I felt we were missing something. I decided to add one more scent. I looked through the pantry to find a box of pumpkin spice pudding mix.  This became my secret ingredient for this one.

Recipe for Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream Dough:

1 box of pumpkin spice pudding and 1 box of baking soda mixed well.  Next I took about a 1/2 cup water and mixed in orange gel food coloring.  I mixed the dry and wet ingredients together until I got the consistency I wanted.  Now we were ready to play.

I will come back tomorrow to share how we set up our sensory table to play with our new found secret ingredient ice cream dough!
As always we hope you can enjoy these too.
