Dirt cake is not an original idea it has been done several times. The name speaks for itself “dirt cake”. People have been making this in flower pots and with candy worms etc… forever. So, what better desert to make for Earth day! It just happens I had been wanting to make this cake. It was on my list to make. I was going to make it a week ago but when I was looking for Earth day crafts, I realized I should wait and just tie it into our Earth day activities. It is easy to make and oh so yummy!
Dirt Cake(Aka oreo cake) For Earth Day
What I used in picture below.
This is the recipe I used. I did change a few things.
OREO COOKIE CAKE (DIRT CAKE)
1 (16 oz.) pkg. Oreo cookies
(I had double stuffed oreos and it seemed I could not get that fine dirt like texture with all that extra cream
in the cookie. I would do plain oreos?)
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
2 (8 oz.) pkg. whipped topping( I use the cans of whip topping and I used chocolate)
1 c. confectioners’ sugar
1 1/2 sticks butter
1 pkg. chocolate pudding
2 c. milk
Crush Oreos very fine. Spread 1/2 Oreos on bottom of pan or flower pot(we used ice cream bowls)
and pour butter over Oreos. Let chill in refrigerator for 1 hour. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar
to 1 can of whipped topping until smooth. Prepare pudding as directed on package.
Spread cream cheese mixture over cookies, then layer chocolate pudding and other can of whipped topping.
Sprinkle remaining Oreos on top. If you use flower pot you can make more layers
and stick an artificial flower in for a surprise.( we added worm and dinosaur gummies)
This is fun for the kids to help make and even more fun to eat. My son loved the added gummies on top. This was a big hit at my house.
