Fall Playdough Busy Activity

Fall is in the air here in the south.  The leaves on a few trees are starting to change color and the evenings are getting cooler.  Fall is my favorite time of the year here.   I took a box of fall themed items we used in play activities last year and the kids were ready to play with them again.  I love simple so I grabbed the fall leaves and our color surprise playdough and set the kids up with a fall playdough busy activity.  Sure to keep them entertained while I cleaned up a little or drank a cup of coffee.

Supplies/what we used:

color surprise playdough – any playdough will do.  This was just easy for me.

leaf tray- optional

leaves- like these Package of 200 Fall Acrylic Mini Leaves – Great Autumn Table Scatters

leaf cookie cutters- like these Wilton Harvest 6 Piece Mini Metal Cookie Cutter Set

leaves and playdough

I added the leaves to the leaf tray.  I placed it on a larger tray.   I grabbed the red, yellow, orange, and green playdough we already had and placed it on the large tray as well.   We also found a few leaf cookie cutters and we added them too.

color sorting

I did not start out with the intention for this to be more than a busy activity that I knew was great for fine motor skills.  But you know the kids color sorted the leaves and even counted with them too.   Sometimes they do better when you just let them explore on their own.  Which, don’t worry, I could see them  while they played.  My youngest still puts things in his mouth at times.  Do use caution with the small leaves depending on the age of the kids.  But for my older two, they could do this on their own. They are 4.5 and almost 7yr.

Counting leaves: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!

print making

They made leaf prints too. So many fun ways to play with this easy fall playdough setup.  We put it away and plan to get it out again for more fun.
