On a hot afternoon I love to set up a water play activity for the kids. Letting them have fun and stay cool at all the same time. This day I had an idea for a fun Fruit Salad Pool for water play. Water play is great to explore senses and most often involves lots of scooping and pouring which is a great way for the kids to work on their gross motor skills. We had a fun afternoon staying cool in our fruit salad pool playing and learning along the way.
Fruit salad pool-water play
The boys love playing in the plastic pool in the summer. It’s a great way to cool off on our hot days. This day I decided to add some plastic fruit, bowls, spoons, and lemon & orange extract for scent. I told big brother it was like a fruit salad, lol. The boys really enjoyed playing in the water. They played with the bowls and pitcher, pouring the water everywhere (great for gross motor skills). I was even pretty wet by the time we came in. But that is ok because it was hot and it felt good to cool off.
Here is our day.
My son loves spraying water from the hose. He does not know it but squeezing the nozzle helps build up his little hand muscles (fine motor skills). This water play activity is a great way to go over colors and types of fruit with the kids.
This is also a great way to promote sibling bonding and give them an activity that can be fun for multiple ages. Simple hands on and open ended play is always a hit at my house.
And yes my son is always running around with a cup of chocolate milk.
Hope you can stay cool and have fun today with this easy water play idea.

This looks like great fun on a hot day & love the idea of the lemon scent. I have done this inside in my water tray with little rubber fruit sorting things but think next time I’ll add the scent too. Thanks for adding this to the link up this week.
