Heart Potato Stamping
Heart Potato Stamping
How I made the stamp:
I cut the the potato in half. Then traced a heart with the end of a paint brush (it was handy) then I traced that with the knife. Last I cut the edges of the potato back and peeled away from the heart shape. Sorry I do not have photos for each step but cutting and taking pictures at the same time is not my talent.
Our set up:
White paper
Potato stampers
paper plates with red and purple paint
What we did:
I set the kids up with the stampers, paint and paper. Easy peasy. The boys ( 2.5 yr and 5 yr) could not wait to get started with the heart shaped potato stampers.
This was a fun and exciting sensory art project for the kids. Any painting is really a sensory experience in itself but, by adding in the potato heart stamper it was an extra sight and touch element for them to explore.
My oldest had so much fun making hearts and did not make a mess during this art project. My toddler well, he was another story. He had so much fun making hearts to start and then just went to classic finger painting. I do not blame him, finger paint is fun! He then proceeded to painting his hands with the potato. It was a fun process to watch as his little mind was working. I love his creativity as he painted. In the end he went straight to the tub for easy clean up. I could have gotten him clean enough with wipes but a bath was soon in his future anyways.
We left our prints to dry overnight. Now we have fun and new, to us, heart potato stamped picture to hang up to decorate for the up coming holiday.
