Homemade Honey Caramel Sauce
Recently I bought a bottle of local honey. I had heard it could help with allergies. The kids tried it and said no I do not like it. My kids are quite picky. I figured whether it helped with allergies or not, we could find a fun recipe to use it in. Homemade Honey Caramel Sauce sounded good to me. I also thought the kids would enjoy helping to make it. They love getting in the kitchen and helping make something new. So that is just what we did. We got in the kitchen and whipped up a yummy new treat. Now we have a fun and yummy sauce to try on different foods.
Homemade Honey Caramel Sauce
Ingredients or what we used:
local honey
brown sugar
heavy cream
vanilla extract
cooking spray
butter
How to make or what we did:
To start melt 1/2 cup of butter. My son (6yr) cut the stick of butter into smaller pieces before we added to the pan. This is a great life lesson on how to use a butter knife. We melted over medium – high heat. Next we measured out 1 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1 cup honey. We added all of these ingredients to the pot. Last we added a 1 tsp of vanilla extract. We mixed it up with a whisk. Now we cooked it over medium heat for 30 minutes. We kept an eye on it so it did not boil over. Once ready we poured into a glass jar.
Leave the glass jar to cool to room temperature. Once it has cooled it is time to eat! We used our homemade honey caramel as a dip for our strawberries this afternoon. We have also tried it on ice cream. I also wonder if it would be good with pancakes or french toast. Guess we will just keep trying new things and see what we enjoy our homemade sauce with.
