Super Sized Ice = Super Sized Fun-sensory ice play

It’s no secret we love water play at my house.  It has been our go to activity for outside fun.  Having a preschooler and toddler, for me it can be hard to find things for them to do together that are the same.  With this activity they get to do just that.  A lot of our water play has elements of learning sprinkled throughout them all.  Even if its just simply going over colors and letting them work on their motor skills.  I love water play because once they are set up I can sometimes sit down right next to them and play.  ( being a pregnant mom this is a plus to me)  Having fun with my boys is always a  must.

What I did for our super sized ice water play:

I took small plastic bowls and filled with water and food color.  Let them freeze. Take large plastic bottles out of our recycling box and washed and filled with water.  I got out a few plastic boats for them to play with.  And of course I got my trusty water bin aka plastic Rubbermaid box.

I sat the water bin out for them and they wanted to get the colored ice out of the bowls.  Then my oldest poured all the water bottles in.  My little guy tried but the bottles were a little to heavy for him.

It didn’t take long for my little guy to get wet.  My oldest was so happy to be in control of pouring the water.

With the ice out and the water in, the boys could create their own fun.  We did go over the color of the ice cubes.  We talked a little on how big they were compared to regular ice cubes.  We also saw that the big ice sunk in the water.

I loved the colors of the cubes.  The ice cubes were a great sensory substance for them to play with.

I had to go through the pictures several times to get it down to these few.  They had so much fun playing with the water and ice.  They added buckets and trucks.  They poured water out and transferred it to other buckets.  They ran around with ice cubes….  I love watching them play and use their own imaginations to create their own fun.  We always have a good time when we get our water bin out!  Hope you and your kids may enjoy a little water play too.
