Tape Resistant Pour Paint Pumpkin Decorating

Decorating pumpkins is so much fun.  I love spending time with the kids creating new pumpkins each year to put out as decorations for our fall holidays. We have done some pretty simple decorating in the past since they are still young.  This year now having a 5 yr and 2.5 yr I decided to try a few more exciting ways to decorate our pumpkins   This tape resistant pour paint was just that.

One of the great things about this project is that kids of multiple ages can enjoy it and work on it at the same time.

What we used:

Pumpkin, multiple colored paints (we got ours at walmart), painters tape, poster board, tray, and 2 eagar boys to get this pumpkin painted.

I like to sit everything out for a project before we get started.  I should have gotten out wipes and paper towels as I do with most art projects but forgot those this time.  Thank goodness my husband was home so I was able to get him to bring some out for us.

What we did:

I placed tape on the pumpkin to look like eyes, nose, and mouth.
Then the kids opened the paint and started squeezing it on top of the pumpkin.  All the colors started to drip down the sides and looked so beautiful.

I was getting really excited about how the pumpkin was going to look and the kids were having fun and making a mess.  I was ok with the mess as it was minimal for us.  Then little brother had his own idea of how we should finish the project.  He started to finger paint the face of the pumpkin and smeared all the colors in. It was ok though.  He was just creating his own art.  You can never know what to expect when doing arts and crafts with the kids.

Now that the pumpkin was covered in paint we went to wash up.  I left the pumpkin to dry.

That night big brother and I came back to peel the paint off.  I used a skewer and some scissors to help get it off.  I also used a little wet paint from the poster board to go over the edges of the eyes, nose, and mouth to make sure the paint didn’t peel off.

Big brother had a few small pumpkins we got at the farm.  He got one out and rolled it in the still wet paint on the poster board.  A great way to reuse right, lol.

The next day the boys were so excited to go back and check on the pumpkins.  Now we had a few cute new decorations to put out for the up coming holiday.
