Leprechaun Treasure Box

We started this tradition last year of a Leprechaun Treasure Box.  It is such a fun idea and the kids love it.  So, what is a leprechaun treasure box you ask. Here is the quick answer.  It is a box you make with your kids and then leave out on St. Patrick’s Day eve.  If you are lucky you will find it filled with treasure the next day.  Here is last years post that gives more information.  We had so much fun making our treasure boxes last year and oh the kids thought it was so exciting to find their treasure the next morning after putting out their boxes.

What do you need to make a Leprechaun Treasure Box?
Really you can use whatever you like.  The possibilities are probably endless.

We used a plastic box this year.  I bought them at the dollar tree.  I also bought foam clovers/shamrocks at the dollar tree too.  I had to search around but finally found St. Patricks Day themed stickers.  I wanted to keep it simple when it came to decorating the boxes this year so both my 2yr and 4yr could do this part on their own.  Using stickers was great for both of them.

How to make your Leprechaun Treasure Box:

Take the lid of the box and glue on a foam clover.  Let dry over night.  Let the kids have a sheet of stickers and the bottom half of the box.  Now let them stick the stickers all over the plastic box.  Once through you just wait for the lid to dry.  Then you put the lid back on the top.  Now you have your leprechaun treasure box.

What to do with your leprechaun treasure box

Set it out, we sit ours out on our dinning room table, on March 16th and wait to see if a leprechaun finds it.  If he does he will fill it with treasure.  He will then hide it and if you are lucky to find it on March 17th it is yours.  I took the boxes last year and filled them with small green toys and rolos( closest thing to candy coins I could find).  I hid them for the kids to find the next day.  I also made green footprints for them to follow leading up to the treasure boxes.  Since they are still young this helped them to find it.
