As most moms, I am sure I am not alone in having to work at finding activities for the multiple ages of kids I have at home. I have a 1 yr, a 2.5 yr, and a 5 yr. With this range of ages I have to try and find something they can all do at the same time but is safe and fun for them all. I find this to be a challenge at times. We have a handful of go to activities but sometimes it is nice to mix it up a bit. That is what I did with the Winter Sensory Bin {great for multiple ages} . It’s also perfect for sibling bonding and playtime.
Winter Sensory Bin {great for multiple ages}
What we used:
cotton balls
medium rubbermaid
foam snowflakes from dollar tree
plastic tub toys- snowmen we found at walmart
plastic containers from dollar tree
snowflake ornaments
Our set up:
I added the cotton balls to the container as the base of the sensory bin. I dropped in some foam snowflakes. I stuck the snowflake ornaments around the side of the bin. Then I placed the 2 plastic containers inside. Last I added the plastic snowmen.
What we did:
I had prepped this activity a few days before we played with it. It is easy enough to throw together in minutes, but it was nice to just have to grab the box in a second to put it out for the boys. The kids had started getting restless in the house and started fighting over toys and wanting to go outside. The weather was not allowing for us to go out at the moment so we sat down for some playtime together.
I sat the bin on the floor so all three kids could explore and play with it. I chose the items I added for my 3 kids to all be ok playing with it. I did supervise to make sure baby brother did not eat the cotton balls. He did try but was not successful .
This bin allowed all 3 of the kids to play together which promotes sibling bonding. It also teaches them to share and take turns. This is something we are always working on at my house, lol.
This bin is great for exploring touch and feeling all the different textures of the items in the bin. It is a great way to introduce or go over the topic of seasons and how this represents Winter. We also went over the color white and talked about the circle, ball-like shape of the cotton balls. I enjoyed baby brother’s excitement as he explored a cotton ball for the first time. Priceless moments I am grateful for and memories I will hold dear forever.
